Sorry to keep you in suspense LOL but These patterns are waiting on the sample items to be finished from them and pictures made of them. I have 2 baby patterns written out, for the most part at least. One is a blanket and the other is a hat. That's all I'll say for now!

One of my next projects will be a sweater from a pattern I received from a dear friend, I can't wait to try it but the only thing that bothers me is this pattern is for 6mo and up. I like making mostly newborn stuff. After I get this pattern down I may find a way to minimize it for Newborns or at least 0-3mos. Will all depend on time.

Now off to crochet a bit before I have to go help my dad take the dog to the groomer's then work later.

Watch for these patterns. I'll post them soon as I can get samples made of these patterns!!

The 2 Year Old Bag of Doughnuts

OK now that I have your attention.....

We just came back from Walmart as Scott was nice enough to take me after dinner to get the colors of cotton yarn I needed. I got them all for $1 plus a few extra just to spite Michaels who never restocks or orders more of something while it is on sale. Did I mention they burn me up??? Anyway I got my yarn for the $1 price. SO THERE MICHAELS!

Anyway While there I see Scott talking to one of the other cashiers. He has several bags of those snack cake type doughnuts in his hand.

"What have you got hon?"

"This Bag of doughnuts is 2 years old!!"

"It's WHAT???" I know this is not possible as this is my store I work in.
"LEMME SEE THAT!"

Apparently after the due date of Feb 5 there is some 5 digit serial no ending in 2010. It took the service desk and 2 CSM's to convince him that this was not the year of the expiration date and that the number had nothing to do with the expiration and that the doughnuts were NOT 2 years old.

MEN!!! I love him but I have no idea what to do with this one of mine. I told him if he wanted to look like an idiot that was fine but don't do it in my store or with me with him so I don't look like an idiot. I'm headed home shortly and he is already home after he dropped me off no doubt enjoying his 2 year old bag of doughnuts. I'm going home and enjoy some of my yarn.

Yarn Shopping Day and Michaels

What a day- I spent several hours today yarn shopping directly or indirectly. First trip after a late breakfast was to Michaels. Well guess what? I struck totally out. Monday their Sugar N Cream yarn went on sale for $1. I got in there super early Monday. I got a few skeins but the bins were about half empty to begin with. And our store here is BAD about not putting out more of what's on sale and not restocking or ordering more. So by today they were out. Completely empty. Even though they do have good sales sometimes, I often hate our store for stunts like this. I will have the last laugh- Walmart carries the colors I was after anyway. All I have to do is show Michaels' ad (and they usually don't ask for the ad) and get what I want for $1. So There Michaels!! :0P-----

So- on to the interesting parts. I got a couple of colors Walmart doesn't carry at Hobby Lobby. They weren't on sale but I got what I needed to finish some projects. I like HL Better anyway. They have a much better selection. They don't always run as good of sales but I can depend on them to have it or the employees know me well enough they will go to the back to find it for me. So... Total of six skeins from HL.

Then on to Goodwill. How is this yarn shopping you ask? Ahhh If you haven't followed my blog and projects, I often take sweaters and other items and recycle the yarn from them. So I found 3 or 4 sweaters to take apart for the yarn and a couple tops for me. Plus a little baby jacket to donate.

Haven't hit Walmart yet but will finish my Sugar N Cream stash there.

May post later.... hoping to post a pic or two of my dishcloths I'm working on. About supper time- gonna grab a bite with Scott, my dad and grandmother. Later all!

Dishcloth Bliss and Pattern and an Almost Day Off

Today my friends, is an *almost* day off as I just have a short shift tonight. Great in the free time category, not so much in the pay category. Don't forget Michaels still has the great sale on many types of yarn including super cheap Sugar N Cream and Impeccable! I plan on going back tomorrow morning (If I'm lucky I can get Scott to take me while he's off this weekend) and getting a few more of the $1 Skeins. I'm into cotton lately. Not that I like it that much as it shrinks but people seem to like it as gifts and it sells better if you're making items to sell.

Today I'm making Dishcloths. Just standard dishcloths and loving it. No complicated pattern to follow and they seem to be all the rage on Etsy. I prefer acrylic in my kitchen as it is much softer and doesn't shrink but making some cotton to give away and put in my Etsy shop.

My Standard simple pattern?

H Hook
Cotton yarn about 2oz with some left over

Chain 30

Dc in third chain from hook and each chain across. Ch 2, turn. Ch 2 counts as first stitch in each row.

Dc in second Dc from hook and each chain across. Don't forget to Dc in the Ch 2 from the previous row- it counts as a stitch.

Produces a 8.5" Dishcloth using cotton yarn and H hook.

You can edge yours if you wish- sometimes I do and sometimes I don't. Depends on how fancy I want it.

Shower Scrubbie Free pattern

I made up my own scrubbie pattern for the shower scrubbie things. I only made a small one so far. This should be a simple pattern but does get bundlesome as the scrubbie gets bigger so I wouldn't recommend it for beginning crocheters.

Shower Scrubbie (Small one shown in Picture Made of Cotton yarn) J or K Hook
2-2.5oz of yarn (I prefer acrylic but you can use cotton or a blend or whatever you wish that is washable)

You should know how to make a Double Crochet and a Front Post Double crochet around the post of the Double crochet on the row below.

Ch 30 (Or However long you want your hanging loop)

Join with a slip stitch to form a loop. Ch 1

Row 1: 15 Dc in the last Ch1 then join to first Dc with a slip stitch.
Push the loop behind you as you work keeping it at the top.

Note: It helps to mark the Ch 2 of Round 2 in each round with a safety pin or stitch marker so it is easier to keep up with where to join.

Row 2: Ch 2, Make 4 FRONT POST Double crochets around the post of the first dc in the round below. Move to Next Dc of the round below, Make 5 Front Post Dc around each Dc in the Round Below. Join with a slip stitch.

Repeat Round 2 for a Total of 3 Rounds for a small or Child's Scrubbie.

Repeat Round 2 for a Total of 4-5 Rounds for a large adult scrubbie.

There you go- good luck! They aren't hard but like I said they do get bundlesome after the first couple of rounds.

A Quick Pattern for you- Cup Cozy

I thought I'd share a simple pattern with you, for the crocheted cup cozies or sleeves I've been making for To-Go cups. These take almost no time at all to make. No time to make one? Visit my Etsy Shop- I have plenty made up or can make you a custom one.

Cup Cozy

G Hook
Worsted Weight yarn
Chain 30 (35 for light worsted or sport weight)
Join with a slip stitch. Be careful not to twist the chain.

Half Double crochet in first chain (instead of chaining 2) and each chain to the end. From here you can either mark your first stitch and crochet in a spiral or join rounds with a slip Stitch.

Repeat for 5 Rounds, you will have 6 rounds total.

Edge in Sc or Embellish with buttons or appliques or whatever you wish. This should fit those to-go coffee cups either from restaurants or the reusable ones.

Back home again and Eco Friendly projects

Well the truck is fixed and I'm back home again- glad to be back home but that means not as much internet exposure either. I'd love to move (let's just stop at move) to some place where I could get internet a little cheaper. There's only one carrier that comes thru for high speed where I live and they want an ungodly amount for their internet service, never mind the phone line. I could do dialup cheaply at home but that takes FOREVER and is always cutting you off so it isn't worth having.

In between working and cleaning my stuff out of my house and my dad's den where I was staying and always keep a little something to work on, I've been working on a few Eco-Friendly projects. I've got one set done with a shower scrubbie (small one), washcloth and face scrubbies that will go in my Etsy shop and working on a market bag. Along with the cup cozies I've already got in there. I need to work on some mug cozies- I need one of my own to take to IHOP in the mornings with me, that coffee cup is hot when I first grab it.

I'd like to be working on my own pattern for a market bag of some kind, I have some ideas but haven't got to sit down and do it yet. Pictures to come of some projects soon as I can get them taken and posted. Etsy has been dead lately.

Should be back later with a pic or two or more. Eye candy coming!

Thank you to all my friends who left comments or emailed me. I really appreciate your condolences on the loss of Angel. She was my baby and is missed, but she is in a better place, as insensitive as it sounds to say that. She had been in failing health for the last year or two and really wasn't the same cat. Though I loved her it was her time to go.

My Beloved Angel and Heads Up $1 Sugar N Cream yarn!

Before I rave about the big sale, Those of you who have followed my blog know I talk about my cats. You've seen my posts about Angel, my white cat. She was MY baby. My beloved Angel passed away last night at the age of 9 while I was staying at my dad's. I'm glad in a way- she was getting in bad shape and I didn't really want to be at home to watch her die. I'll miss her but I know she's better off.

Really not in much of a mood today but I did want to pass along the Email I got from Michaels- Their sale next week includes $1 Sugar N Cream Yarn. Here I come!! I normally hate cotton but it is good for some projects and those who are "natural freaks or eco-crazy" seem to love it. Good for some of my reusable projects.

I've gotten into making some scrubbies and washcloths and reusable projects lately. I love acrylic for some of these as it is easy care and the project is still reusable but some people seem to hate it because it isn't natural like cotton or wool. Doesn't make a difference to me on some things. I like the feel of it for washcloths and dishcloths and I even found a couple who agree with me it's better for shower or face scrubbies.

But I will still make cotton for my Etsy shop and gifts for those who prefer it. I'm off to do a little crocheting before I have to get ready for work. Just wanted to let you all know about Angel and the sale next week.

Set of 4 reusable dish cloths. Crocheted squares made of soft cotton yarn in a earthy blend of shades: off-white, teal, sky blue, moss green.

Each cloth is 9" square.

The answer?? In case you can't tell these are KNITTED NOT CROCHETED!!! The seller most likely bought these somewhere and tried to pass them off as her creations. If you are going to steal someone else's work at least label it appropriately! LOL Geez talk about dumb. I almost had to laugh until I realized it wasnt just a mistake she had probably stolen someone else's work and tried to claim it.

Surviving on yarn and crochet and Angel

Well it's been almost a week and I'm surviving here at my dad's. At least I have my crochet and computer to keep me company. I'm missing Scott and the cats though. Speaking of cats, I will soon be down to 4- my poor baby Angel has just about seen her last days. She's almost 9 and has had kidney problems for a long time. She's lived a very spoiled life, and until recently slept or sat with me every minute. I finally had to keep her off the bed or furniture due to her not always making it to the litter box on time. In a way, I'm hoping she passes before I get back home. That sounds bad but it's not something I want to see. I sure will miss her- we have 4 others but none has been my baby like she has. Here's an older pic of her. She was pretty when she was younger. Still was up til a couple or three weeks ago.

I've been surviving on yarn... making some cotton things to put in my Etsy shop and didn't like any of the patterns out there for a Shower Scrubbie or Pouf so I'm making my own. Gotta get ready for work in a bit. I hate having to depend on someone else to take me and pick me up. Hopefully my truck will be ready soon. Have a great day all!

Post-Christmas cleanout and Lavender Washcloths

I'm stuck at my dad's for the week while my truck is being fixed from a deer running into it back in Oct. So, along with some crochet, I'm helping him today go thru some of the massive Christmas stuff my Mom had amassed and seeing what we will never use again or neither of us wants to keep. She would never go through it and there's stuff that was outdated years ago.

I've also been working on a dishcloth/washcloth and discovered the purple cotton yarn I'm using is also lavender scented. This will go more than likely in my Etsy shop along with my other goodies, things are slow right now after Christmas. I like the scent but think it's stopping me up a bit. Haven't decided, may make some scrubbies or a spa set out of it.

Hours are short at work during Jan. and while I'm enjoying the extra time off it isn't good on my pocketbook or paycheck. Thank Goodness Scott is getting Overtime til further notice. Like I said good time to get some crocheting done and do some cleaning out on the house this month. I've gotten a dent made but that's about all. Should be more posts to come this week.

New Year's Purging- No kidding!!

I'm off back to the house today (I don't have internet at home) to do some serious purging of JUNK around the house. All the trash laying around, junk, empty boxes, etc are going BYE BYE. Hubby may have a heart attack when he comes home and all his plastic bottles etc. are missing. Maybe even some of my stuff may go. I haven't been able to do much since he's been on vacation last 2 weeks and the house shows it. Well, no more!

Crocheting etc can be done tonight. Gonna make or finish a project to be a blanket for that litttle puppy I was talking about. Poor baby. Later all!

Last Post of 2011

No, it's not New Year's yet.... one more day. You'll have to wait for that.

There has been a little (but very little) yarn work around here lately since Christmas is over until next year. It wasnt long enough. I do love Christmas, just not some of the rush that goes with it. Since I am on a yarn diet til I get some things cleaned up and cleaned out and some yarn worked up, no yarn bought but a few projects.

A few dryer balls made, a cup cozy or two. A baby donation item or two has been packed with the rest waiting and will be shipped soon as the PO opens.

A few projects I'd like to work on in 2012:

All UFO's I've deemed worthy of finishing
A Blanket for a tiny puppy of a friend's (Poor thing broke both front legs)
Some Animal beds I've been dying to try
Several baby patterns I've got in mind
Some more ideas I have for Etsy
Mail the boxes I have sitting around for donation.

Last but not least here's some more new items I've worked on and put in my Etsy shop in the last month or so. Not many people are buying but at least it's some eye candy.

A Real Christmas

This being the first Christmas without my mom with us, I wasn't sure how everything was going to pull together but we managed it just fine and maybe even a little more meaningful.

The dressing recipe I used similar to Mom's (we never got her real recipe or the whole idea of how she made it) came out great. Next time about 1/4 to 1/2 tsp more sage and about 15 min more cooking time but it was still good. It was my first attempt at making dressing. I also did the yams, vegetables etc. that Mom usually did. It wasn't much work, just time consuming.

Most of the family has either passed away or doesn't want much to do with us for one reason or other so it was just the four of us. Me, Scott, Daddy and my 92 year old grandmother. Somehow it was even better smaller. Not that I don't like family but it was nice just to be quiet and have not as much chaos.

We didn't give a lot of big expensive gifts this year. We are blessed enough everyone has pretty much all they need without a lot of junk they don't really. As usual mostly cash from my dad and grandmother which will help go to pay some bills hopefuly with some left over to put in the savings acct. That's most of what we needed at my house. Just keeping the bills taxes etc. paid. We already have more junk than we can say Grace over at my house. As my dad was telling me to pick out a few things at Christmas time for me and Scott to open, I had a hard time finding things. I finally picked out a few smaller things we could really use that we just didnt have the cash every day to replace etc.

I haven't had the $$ this year to do my usual charity work or send my creations places I know they are needed and it's really bugged me. Even though we are often short on $$ in the bank account, I have all the food, gas (usually) and necessities I need. Many people I run across, even hard working folks, don't. It was paining me to try to find something I could afford to do for someone that really needed it this year, and it was down to Christmas Eve.

We just wanted a simple meal, we were going out as usual just to find a sandwich etc. Finally one of the only places left open was Logan's Roadhouse we usually don't go to because it is expensive. My dad said "What the heck it's Christmas, order what you want". We know the waitress really well from there and a couple other places she's worked and taken really good care of us. It was 7pm when we finished our steaks and my dad left her an extra tip for Christmas in addition to the big meal. He left her $20. She asked about our plans and we said we were running to Wal-mart for a couple last minute things, they closed at 8. "You mean Walmart is closing at 8?? I thought they were always Open!!" Yes but not on Christmas eve or Day.

She went on "I got called in today and came in because I needed the cash but there is no food in my house except a few cans of Ravioli and Tuna Fish! I was going to use my tips to pick up some food for the kids tomorrow. "

My husband (who had met us in his own vehicle) quickly volunteered to go across the street to Wal-mart and pick up what she needed. She handed him the $20 my dad gave her and a small grocery list:

Milk
Pretzels
Salad Dressing
Canned Spaghetti sauce

My husband asked if she needed anything else. She said "No that's all I have the money for right now until my check comes in- my tips are it".

After we got out of there I called him and told him to go on and get her some kind of ham and a few vegetables she could fix for the kids for dinner tomorrow, whatever it cost we could afford $20-$30 out of our own pocket- we had plenty of food to eat.

After getting the groceries back to her, with her all excited, I reminded my husband every time he fussed about little or almost no money in the checking account think about the things he does have that he needs: the house, 2 vehicles, insurances, plenty of food on the table, his medicine..... and many more things I can't think of right now.

I could go on but my point is this: Aside from missing my mom being here this Christmas, this year has turned out better all because seeing so many people around me without even food for Christmas dinner or the necessities has made me grateful that I have what I need. Gifts are nice, but it's made me realize even if things aren't the way I'd have them, there's always someone who isn't as blessed as I am. I thank the Lord for reminding me of this and giving me the opportunity to help someone else out. I just wish he'd allow me to do a little more of it. It feels good. Makes Christmas seem more real.

You know the crayon art that keeps popping up on Etsy and blogs everywhere? Well you know how I am once I get a new idea.... I had to try it. Meet my latest creation:

Pretty cool huh? I'm pretty pleased with the way it turned out.... not bad for my first attempt. Now, to keep it (What the heck will I do with it???) or put it in my Etsy shop? Hmm I may wait til after Christmas to decide. It was fun to do either way. I may make some more. Getting late tonight though to do it at my dad's and I don't havve the space at home. I gotta do the work thing tomorrow though. Maybe Monday I'll have some time.

Still got gifts to wrap too- I don't want to do a dang thing the three days off over Christmas (except celebrate that is) except what I want to do. This was MY creative time today and I had to steal it. If I can figure out how to do a name I may do one for a little girl I know. Hmm that will take time to figure out though. OK this is my last post before leaving for the night so.... Night all!!

Not mine... my dad's. This lady doesn't clean for me anymore and if she did I'd fire her. I had a crocheted holder I made on my *empty clean* styrofoam to-go coffee cup I was using to take pictures of my crocheted coffee cozies. Mind you it had never been used and was decorated with the *crocheted* holder. She took the freakin crocheted holder off, put it on an empty bottle that needed to be tossed anyway, and THREW AWAY MY DISPLAY CUP!!!! BOTH OF THEM!! THE SHORT ONE AND THE TALL ONE.

GEEZ! I was planning to take them when I was through using them for display to work to put hot chocolate etc. in.... so much for that. Now I gotta buy a @#$% cup of coffee somewhere I don't want to get another one.

OK so she leaves the trash there, puts the holder on it.... and throws away the clean, new one. This woman has no sense. I was going to post something else but I'm PO'ed now and forgot what.

On the upside, I did sell a set of dryer balls from my Etsy store. *Shameless plug* I do custom orders of small things in many colors if anyone is interested in a coffee sleeve, pet blanket, or dryer balls or other small item. Just let me know.

May post again later if I remember what the heck it was I was going to post about.

Anyone out there who used to follow this site? I did and when she stopped posting I unjoined/unfollowed. All of a sudden I started getting blogger updates a couple days ago with her blog name and address with the topic of some Japanese Anime site. When I tried to unfollow several ways it never showed up I was following that blog. I deleted a blog in my following list that didnt even show up, we'll see if that does the trick or not but I think someone used her previous followers to hijack viewers. Any of her old blogging doesn't even show up when you go to clarascrochetroom.com. A shame too- it was a great crochet blog.

Anyone else having this problem?

There is snow in the Western KY and MO Bootheel area!! Not that it's that early but it's the first winter weather of the year.

This last week has been crazy. Finally got a nap in until I was woke up by the tow truck driver's phone call to pick up Scott's truck. Oh, I forgot- you hadn't heard. Scott hit a deer Wed night so we now have that truck to get fixed. Thankfully he wasn't hurt. Just mad cause his truck's torn up.

In other news, our county has severed ties with our local humane society animal shelter after inhumane treatments of animals and improper euthanizations were discovered. Volunteers have now opened a new shelter where the county is taking animals they pick up to be held for a couple weeks hoping the owners will find them then they will be adopted out, or kept until they are. The county is also close to closing the old one if the Humane Society doesn't straighten it up real quick. Too late for many animals but at least the ones still there are getting some help. That's how we wound up with our cats, I adopted Angel from a No-kill shelter and the rest have been rescued either after being dumped or were about to go to the Humane Society I was mentioning earlier (the one they are about to close) where I knew they would be put to sleep even as kittens.

Please do remember to donate some items to your local (preferably no-kill) pet shelter with winter and Christmas coming up. Also remember there are many people and children in need- many of you donate to charities and these are the closest to my heart, the pets and children.

I hope everyone is staying warm in the snow and wet weather- please be careful out there!

Holiday dish- Congealed Salad

Just to share with everyone- the recipes my mom and I used for congealed salads- aka that "green" salad. I always turned mine into a strawberry/cranberry one and she did the green lime one.

Here's the recipe. I substituted one package of strawberry and one package of cranberry jello in mine. I suppose you could use cranberry orange or strawberry orange or whatever you wish. I'll eat the green OK but I'm nuts about the strawberry cranberry. I got the idea cause Sam's Choice used to make a strawberry/cranberry juice I loved. Hope you guys enjoy this!

2 6 oz. pkg. Lime Jell-O

4 cups hot water

2 cups cold water

1 cup crushed pineapple

1/3 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)

1 pkg. Dream Whip

1/2 cup milk or heavy whipping cream.

Combine Jell-O and hot water in a large bowl, stirring until dissolved. Pour in cold water; mix. Stir in pineapple and nuts. Add the Dream Whip and milk.

Pour into a Jello mold and refrigerate for several hours or overnight before serving.

Crazy week- trying to wind down

Hey all,

After a throroughly crazy week, I'm working hard at trying to wind down. Between work, runnin back and forth to the house from Paducah all week trying to see about our heater working one minute and not the next, running errands, trying to keep bills paid, some things still not getting done..... then Scott's last minute "Oh while you're off I need......" as if I have nothing to do on my days off.

This is the first time I've had time to sit down at the computer for more than 5 minutes in the last week or so anyway. Watching some Looney Tunes and about to crochet for a bit. Too many projects in my head right now I don't have time to start or finish. I also wanna see the Muppets when it comes out next week but no telling if there'll be time or $$ for that when it comes around.

I still have several little ami animals to finish and wanting to do some Christmas and pet things too. Mom isn't here for Christmas this year, she accounted for a lot of my shopping as I often got her several little things and everyone else a bigger thing. If we're going to have any, Daddy and I also have to put our heads together and fill in her role of making the dressing this year- it should just be the 4 of us but I still want to have some traditional dinner here even though we may eat with some friends later. Not that I mind that but they have some mutual friends that aren't my idea of people to hang around if you get my drift. A couple of friends etc. are already bought for so I'm wanting some Christmas shopping love to do. I still have Daddy and Scott to get something for, my grandmother a little something (she doesn't know much of the difference but she still gets something anyway) . A couple more friends' gifts besides the ones mentioned and that's about it.

I am grateful for a couple of Etsy sales, stuff I'd had I needed to get out of the way. I had some stuff sell on Ebay but it's getting to be a pain- the funds aren't available immediately, and it's overall a lot more trouble.
I'll post a bit later with some things I've made lately. Starting to concentrate some on Christmas stuff either to sell or give away.

Now to the crochet hook and use up some of that surplus yarn!! I feel a write of a pattern coming on!! I found one I liked but totally hated how the pattern was written so I'll probably start from scratch and make my own.

I'm watching Dr Seuss's how the Grinch Stole Christmas. I have no idea why it's on so early... but I'm enjoying it. Yeah, I'm wierd that way.... 36 and watching cartoons. I love them. I also wanna see the Muppets when it comes out later this month.

I'm also working on another Christmas stocking for my Etsy shop. I'm hung on them lately. If anyone needs one in a certain color let me know. I have 3 or 4 up on my shop already. Back to the tv special before it's off! Later!

Starting Christmas Early on Etsy

Since folks are already posting Christmas items and gifts on Etsy, I figured I'd jump on the bandwagon. There are currently 3 choices of Christmas stockings available on MeowCreations on Etsy- One done in a victorian ombre, one in a cream and gold sparkle, and one choice (or more) for a custom color of your choice. I do also have several items up for custom items if you need a Christmas gift done.

No crocheting got done today as we had a picnic for Scott's work. Plenty of pattern organization to be done though. I'm looking forward to making a few amigurumi's which will go in my Etsy shop. I also have quite a few patterns and things I have posted under the name Meowcreations2011 on Ebay. Right now that's selling more things than Etsy. Etsy is getting lots of lookers but noone is buying much.

I do have some stockings I'm putting up on Etsy for right now and there is a custom spot on there if anyone is interested in a certain color stocking (or more than one). I did have someone ask about my victorian ombre stocking but they were wanting more than one of them and I can't get the color anymore as it has been discontinued.

Been having a hard time getting anything done lately cause Scott has had some short weeks at work meaning he's been home a lot and even though I've been off between vacation i took and being sick, I just can't get anything done when he's home and some of the rest of the time I haven't felt like picking up in the house. I am, however, trying to use up some of the yarn I boughgt several lots of on Ebay. Like I needed more.

Wish me luck everyone on trying to get some done on the house and crochet. I have to go back to work this week which doesn't help in the time department. Have a great one everyone and keep warm if you're in one of those snowstorms!!

Plus, my afghan has a bid on Ebay!! Now if I can just get some more bids on it to up the price....

Cleaning out- from the inside out

Well the contract has expired on the house and the housekeeper quit a couple months ago. Needless to say the house is getting a big cleaning out and cleaning as soon as I get hubby back to work from a weekend off. I can't do squat with him around in the middle of the way. Only then can I relist the house for sale.

First to go: the closets so I can put more stuff in the closets LOL

Next to go: his hat collection if he doesn't put them up where they belong. (Notice no LOL here)

Next on the list: hire a new housekeeper if I can find one.

The keepers? All the crochet patterns to be organized and all the yarn to be put in the back bedroom closet.

Then wash the house down good.

But first go take my cough med before I cough myself silly (as if I haven't already had enough) LOL

Now go crochet something and get off the puter!!

Wednesday.... What's going on here? Plenty!

Hi all! It's Wednesday, my day off and finally a few things getting done around here.

Been helping a bit at my grandparents' cleaning out the basement- we don't even want to begin with all the junk there! Nothing really valuable- just stuff collected over 60 some odd years. A few little things will go on Ebay etc. but most of it just sentimental stuff and everyday junk.

Also keeping check on my Ebay and Etsy sites- I've been going thru some things and patterns both of mine and that I recently acquired and thinning out what I don't need. Keep a watch on Etsy (Meowcreations) and Ebay (Meowcreations2011) as there may be some good craft stuff and sales on there in the next little bit!! Lots of general craft stuff and knitting magazines and books and some crochet I can't use. Maybe even a little YARN I won't use up for sale once in a while.

About to go back to sorting some patterns and things and then getting ready for our usual Wed night dinner and shopping with a friend. As if I need to shop! Watch those Ebay and Etsy sites- lots will be popping up there in the near future esp crochet, knitting and crochet!

What am I crocheting? Nothing big lately just a few baby charity things- when I really need to be cleaning up and out my own place. Later all- back to sorting and Ebay. Trying to get a bid or two on some things to get out of here.

Saturday Afternoon

Hey all,

I'm feeling a bit better so back at the computer and crochet hook. I'm having to watch my grandmother for the afternoon so spending most of my time listing some things on Etsy and Ebay, watching an auction that's about to end- some people fighting over my Interweave Crochet Magazine- and working on a small baby blanket to be donated with the yarn I got from Pammy's giveaway. I got some lovely yarn bee baby yarn- I love that stuff.

Been working when able this week on going through craft stuff and patterns. Needed to be purging the house of all the other junk but haven't felt like doing any of that. Contract with Real estate has expired on the house and I have to figure out what to do with it- relist it or list it with someone else. It is in no shape to show right now that's for sure- needs a good cleaning out and carpets among other things need cleaning. Maybe in a few weeks when I get my vacation...

Hi all-

This is a short post since I'm sick- battling infections in both ears, sinuses, throat and bronchitis for the last several days. Sorry so short and few between postings.

Pattern Bliss and Checking In

Hi all- just checking in for now. This week has been a whirlwind, sinuses cutting up, work, a little but very little crochet in between. Computer has been a bit neglected as I've been busy. I'm also going through a ton of various craft patterns I came across deciding what to keep what I will use and what I will sell or get rid of that I couldn't or wouldn't do. Actually I want to keep them all but I could never do all the stuff I know how to do in a lifetime much less learn all the new stuff. I'm mostly keeping the crochet and knitting stuff I like, some various other things I think I might do someday here and there.

Fall is in the air here and aside from it tearing up my sinuses, I'm enjoying the cooler weather. Lots of yarn weather if I had the time :o) Actually I am having to straighten all that up too as my living room has become buried in yarn and other things. Hubby actually hasn't fussed- I'm surprised.

I do have some yarn I bought intending to make my mom some Halloween placemats to go with her black tablecloth. Of course, now that she isn't here I have to find something special to do with it. I have some ideas... hmmm.

I do have to say Thank you to my good friend Mimi (Love you lots!!)- you know what for, and hope you got back from your trip OK.

New and better template

Like it? I got tired of the cottage one, so wintery looking even though it's not winter. This one is a little more seasonal til I can find something in general I really like for non holiday backgrounds etc.

Been making some more dryer balls last few days. Got to use up some of that wool I had stored and make some space. I've sold a couple sets- time to make some more. Can't get much done for work and trying to sort thru some of the mess in the house. Scott isn't helping much - he's on overtime and when he's home lately he's too tired to talk or clean up his stuff. Got a big grizzly bear running around and the house is too small for that.

Got some more stuff to put on Etsy but I need photographs. Don't feel like doing much today I'm so tired and gotta work later. Darn this thing called work- it doesn't involve yarn. Plus the lady helping me clean house quit and I'm scraping to find any time at all to clean other than the vacuum and the bathroom. I need a week off to clean the house with no hubby around and a week for vacation!!

Crocodile Stitch Pattern- TUTORIAL

Hi Everyone!

I'm making this in segments so please bear with me. I'm going to attempt to explain how I made my own pattern for a Crocodile Stitch Shawl or other triangular item. Everyone seems so confused by this pattern... It's really very simple once you've made a few scales. I realize there are patterns out there- I have not seen them and refuse to pay a large price for them so I have come up with my own and am glad to share them with you. Any part of the tutorial or any pattern I make is certainly my own creation since I have never seen the others, just pictures of the finished product. I do not plan on selling my pattern or tutorial but I do plan on showing my friends how *I* make one. I don't know if it's similar to any patterns out there or not.

The basic crocodile stitch consists of 2 rows: a row of V stitches (dc, ch1, dc) and a row making double crochets into the V stitches to make the "Scale" or "Shell" hang down. The Triangle pattern is not so hard in either direction- for increases or decreases you simply add a V-stitch at each end of the row or skip to the next allotted point to start the next row for decreases then leave the last one out at the end.

Ready?

Let's make a Triangle, using increases. You can use this to make shawls, kerchiefs, and just about anything else triangular you can think of.

Use a fairly thin yarn (Unless you want a way-too-thick item as these stitches create layers which will make your item thick unless you use thinner yarn.) and a larger crochet hook. I used Pound of Love and an I or J hook to make mine. Smaller hooks will make tiny scales if you crochet tight like I do. Use the size hook you need with the yarn you are using. I wouldn't use regular worsted weight unless you want a very heavy item. Thin worsted such as simply soft or Pound of Love or Red Heart Soft is a good choice. How much you will need depends on how large your item is.

IMPORTANT: YOU WILL NOT BE TURNING YOUR WORK OVER. YOU WILL BE WORKING INTO THE FRONT OF STITCHES MADE AT ALL TIMES WITH THE RIGHT SIDE FACING.

For the first "Scale":

Chain 5 and join with a slip stitch. Chain 3 and make 11 more double crochets into the ring BUT DO NOT join.

Chain 3 (counts as first double crochet). Chain one, then dc into the double crochet stitch just made. You've made one V-stitch. Ch 1. Now make another into the ring and chain 1 and another into the first double crochet you made into the ring where you would have normally joined. 3 V-stitches made. Do not chain and do not turn over but turn your work to the side so that the last dc of the V-stitch you just made is facing you.

Into the 3 V-stitches you made into the previous row, you're going to make 2 scales. This means you'll skip one of the V-stitches.

Now, That last V-stitch you just made? Chain 3 (counts as a dc) and make 5 more down the SIDE of that last V-stitch on the previous row. Now turn your work around where you can make 6 double crochets UP the other side of that same V-stitch.

Skip the next V-stitch, you'll do the same into the next one. Work 6 dc's down the side of the last one and 6 more UP the other side of it. 2 scales made.

Turn your work clockwise again, and chain 4 (first Dc plus chain 1) and dc into base of chain 4. First V stitch made. *Now Ch 1 and V stitch into the chain in the middle of the first scallop below and chain 1. V stitch into skipped V stitch on the last row and ch 1. Repeat from * to end and V stitch into the last Dc of previous row.

You can keep going in this manner to create a large triangle such as a shawl or cape, or if you want to stop there and create a flat piece you can. Just Omit the first and last V stitches and substitute a Dc instead.

The formula for a flat piece (such as a rectangular shawl or scarf etc) with no increases is 3 chains to each "scale" desired.

Sock etc. weather coming!

Wow- cold front coming thru tonight. Supposed to be in the 90's today and low 70's tomorrow. Then high of 64 and rainy the next day. Fall is definitely here!! Sock weather!! I've already started on one pair using Pammy Sue's fav Snowflake yarn from Hobby Lobby. I was told they aren't clearancing it all out- just some colors. They do that from time to time to make room for the new. They also had fisherman's wool colors on clearance. Hopefully there'll be some left when I get paid (with a bonus and holiday pay) on Thursday.

Anyone else working on cooler weather items?? Give me some ideas guys! Gotta run- work calls shortly. If socks get finished anytime soon will show pics. Also planning tutorial for Crocodile stitch shawl if I ever get around to typing it out and taking some pics.

It's Cooling Off!

Been Busy.... playing with yarn

I've been busy- playing with yarn today. Sound fun? Not really- not the type of playing with yarn I wanna do. Seems my project and spare yarn stash is not only filling my house, but certain corners at my dad's.... so I've been cleaning out and sorting UFO's, finished objects that need something done with them, spare yarn to keep and "What am I saving that for" stuff. Geez what a mess. At least there's Criminal Minds and Scooby Doo marathons on to keep me company.

Scott is off this weekend but so far I haven't spent much time with him. After a grueling day at work (OK, imagine a Walmart Supercenter on the first weekend of the month on top of Labor Day weekend.... CRAZY!!) I went to my truck and called my dad as usual for the night. I started to hang up and started the truck.... it wouldn't start. Great. I thought Scott was in bed for work so my dad had to drag my grandmother out at 11:30 at night to come charge my truck. It seems the battery is fine, just a corroded cable and post that need cleaning off. It was 85 degrees last night at midnight - hot for here and about 100 yesterday and today both. Weather says it's supposed to cool down ... yeah right.

So I stayed at my dad's last night rather than get home and not be able to get back to Paducah this morning. I've been doing a little crocheting on some stuff I had with me as well as trying to sort stuff out here. I've put some stuff on ETSY esp some WOOL yarn and a couple crayon sets that need to go. Some more stuff may go later. I've got a UFO afghan I'm trying to decide to finish or to frog. I'm leaning toward frogging but it's a lotta yarn.

Lady M, MOM and Shawl Progress

Hi All,

Just a few short notes before I have to get ready for *ugh* this thing called work that doesn't involve crochet!

Lady M your package is done and should go to mail today. I know it's a bit late but I have a good excuse- I kept finding skeins of yarn to stick in it!! Hope you enjoy! There's several there.

The comment I left on Pammy's blog was no joke and no dream- I actually did see my mom after she died, she spoke to me, then disappeared and I was fully awake- even got up and went back through the house after she had gone. And no, I'm not crazy- not in that respect anyway. She was really there cause I felt her shaking me on the shoulder to wake me up at first- I went in the other room to see where Scott was and he was sound asleep along with the cats so noone was moving in the house. She gave me a goodbye message then was gone. I haven't seen her since but I believe it since I've seen other things similar that noone else would but this is the first time I have been spoken to. I also saw an angel when my grandfather died. I thought I was seeing things until I finally revealed what I had seen months later then my grandmother said she saw it too and so did Scott. They didnt want to say anything for fear noone would believe them but my grandmother being 89 at the time and not always..... with us shall we say.... she was right. But she went on to describe the same thing I had seen before I described it so I knew she was right. It's strange but I've seen enough things I can't explain to believe they're there.

As for the crocodile shawl, some progress but it's slow going because I'm short on TIME!!! I may write up my pattern one day but until time permits..... gotta get one made first. And it would be my own pattern because any similarities to another or two out there would be coincidental since I haven't seen them. It's really easy and that youtube video does NOT help. It's simply crocheting around the sides of V-stitches made in the row below. If you look up one of the free patterns out there they aren't a triangle but it isn't hard to figure out the increase. Just make an extra Vstitch in each end along with along the top as directed..... VOILA! Leave it to me, I love to figure out things just to show I can!!

Ok gotta run get ready for work in a bit - spent most of my free time last couple days with this stupid wireless connection - I got it working but keeps messing up on the other puter's end when it restarts or gets messed with. Hopefully tonight won't be too tired to crochet!! Later!

Major computer accomplishment

Finally after ages of trying I also got the settings right to wirelessly link my laptop to my dad's puter at home. I'd been trying to do this for ages so I wouldnt be tying up my dad's puter at his house since I don't have internet access at home- no phone line and high speed not available without costing a fortune. So I either take my laptop places with wifi or use his puter. Now I can link my laptop to his and do my puter searching, reading and work a lot better. Now that that feat is accomplished, back to crafting!!

I finally figured it out!! Crocodile triangle shawl!

Months ago, I started working on figuring out the Crocodile stitch so I could make that triangle shawl and other things without buying one of those ridiculous expensive patterns they think are made of gold and deserve a war price for. I had the stitch down just couldnt figue out the increases. Well I did it!! Finally figured it out- and without a pattern. I may just make up my own pattern it's so easy. But if you crochet tight like I do, you need a bigger hook than the G or H called for on most of the patterns.

*Snoopy Happy Dance* (Wanna join in Pammy??) One triangle shawl in the works!! Should be quick to finish if I get uninterrupted time to work on it at night. Hopefully pics before long.

A new craft and packages going out

OK, so I'm dangerous.... I know. I've taken up ANOTHER new craft- needle felting. It's really quite addicting. So far I've made some small pumpkins, acorns and another couple of works in progress. And so far... NO finger stabs from that needle! *Knock on wood* Pictures to come when I get some taken.

Lady M I have your address and your package almost ready to go out. I had plans to mail it out today but stuck babysitting my grandmother so I can't leave my dad's. Will go out with my Etsy sales for last week. I had two in two days after months of nothing. Hopefully things will pick up. I do plan on posting some needle felted creations on Etsy along with my t-shirt rug when it's done. That's at a standstill right now til I cut up another couple of t-shirts. So many crafts, not enough time.

Gotta run check on my 92 year old grandmother (she gets into mischief!!) and the roast I have in the crock pot for supper. Real simple recipe:

1 3lb roast (pork or beef but I like beef)
1 Can Campbells Golden Mushroom soup (I pick the mushrooms out later but gives it flavor)
2 cans whole potatoes (drain half the juice if your pot is getting too full)
Half 1lb bag of baby carrots.
Salt and pepper to taste

Real simple... cook on about 4-5hours on high. Voila! Dinner! Got some fresh corn and green beans to fix with it but the roast and fixins is really enough.

To Rug-making that is!

These are so much fun I had to start 2 more. I started a circular in a flowery pattern made from sheets that I'm not sure I like after I got it started. Will add some solid to it and see it it's any better. It's not ugly or anything just doesn't strike my fancy.

Then I'm working on a tshirt rug that really pops as far as color and is working up quick. Pictures to come later. I really like this one but dunno what I'd do with it if I kept it.

OK folks I'm off to the grind... er... actual work that is. Gotta make some $$ to pay these darn bills that keep coming in. Hopefully pics tomorrow or Thurs, depends.

Looking for Octavia Octopus pattern from magazine

Hoping someone out there can help me- if anyone can hook (no pun intended) me up with the pattern or send me one there'll be a GOOD reward involved.

I'm looking for a pattern from a late 80's or early 90's crochet magazine called Octavia. She's done in rainbow colors in their picture (possibly Red Heart Mexicana) and she's full size- 11" or so not counting legs which are braided. This is not the bed doll or yarn octopus pattern. She has crocheted head and eyes with braided legs and it shows jingle bells on the ends of her legs.

Not sure, it could have been Crochet Magazine or Crochet World. I believe there was an elephant in a baby bonnet and some afghans in the same magazine. Here is the picture of the Elephant- I found it online!

I have not been able to find a similar one on the internet anywhere and do not have time to make one up from memory. There's a finder's reward if someone can hook me up with the CORRECT pattern. Please check your older magazines etc. and see if by chance you have this pattern. I'd much appreciate it!

Progress on the rug

Wow this rug is moving fast... would be even faster if I didn't have to stop and go to work LOL It measures about 17"X27" at the moment. I plan to do some others but one thing at a time.... plus I need another Q hook or two when Hobby Lobby puts another coupon or sale out. I like their colored hooks and they're cheap. No boring blue Q hooks.

Here's the latest pics with the light blue added on. What ya think? It's taken 1 and a half sheets stripped so far, one full and one queen size.

Oh well, no rest for me (though badly needed), I'm off for work in a bit.

A New Craft and a Care Bear

Hi All,

Guess what I'm into now? Rag Rug making. Just mostly to see what it would come out like. It's going to be pretty once I get done... no toothbrush needles, crocheted of course. Even though it's done in the mauve and blue colors of my living room I'm not sure if it'll go there or in my Etsy shop. Here's what I have done so far since Friday:

Nevermind the shadow in the picture... one of these days I'll learn not to do that but I was in a hurry.

I've also listed a 1983 Original Care Bear in my Etsy shop. I came across him in perfect condition and well.... I just couldn't leave him there all alone could I?? I'm also having a recession sale of sorts in my shop. Stay tuned for some price reductions and new items.

Monday... MY Time

It's Monday again... My day off so this is MY time. Doing some photographing for Etsy, Making some more dryer balls out of wool, and thinking some other craft projects that won't take tons of time.

Hmm have any of you made those decorative balls that just sit in a bowl? I'm thinking of making some.... wondering if they'll sell. I sure like them.

I've found a great niche for recycling materials, old sheets being cut up for rag projects or decorative fabric balls, sweaters etc. unraveled for the yarn, found a basket to crochet around.... all at Goodwill. There are a couple of other thrift shops around here but I've had bad luck- one is about 20 mi up the road and I went up there last week only to find it wasnt open that day. So..... decided today to go to another here in town.... It was closed today!! Geez someone get me a schedule! At least I know Goodwill is open every day.

Also looking for some other good blogs and etsy shops to visit- I haven't had comments (other than from Mimi- Thank you Mimi!!) in forever, so leave me your comments with a blog address or Etsy shop name.

Here's what else is on my hook- a Baby Ripple. I just love this Bernat Premium knitting yarn. No baby showers at the moment so this one will go on Etsy more than likely. Sorry about the shadow- I was in a hurry to get these taken and posted.

I also have a new banner, logo and Avatar for my Blog and Etsy Shop. I used a Picture of Harley and a free banner maker to do it. The Avatar was done by mistake when something didn't come out right. I thought, "Hey I can use that!"

OK so I'm an Idiot..... (Pictures included)

Yep, a complete one. Go to the bathroom before reading this to prevent any accidents from laughing too hard.

Idiot act #1:

Monday I finally found the yarn I'd been waiting so long for Walmart to get more of that color in and bought it along with some clearance yarn at HL. Like an idiot I left it all in my truck.

Idiot act #2:

Tuesday I went in to work, 98 degrees on the truck when I went in locked it and left the windows open about an inch. About 9pm we had a horrific thunderstorm (after a forecast of total sun and NO chance of rain by the way). Needless to say my truck got washed on the inside, yarn and all. It was still pouring when I arrived home and I had been sitting in a wet truck so I went on in, used the automatic start on my truck a few times to run the air and dry things out a bit. Yeah right, who am I kidding.....

Idiot act #3:

The next day it was still wet so after sunshine I rolled the windows down to let it dry in the sun and 90-odd degree heat, took everything out that was wet and separated it into what had to air dry and what could go in the dryer. Or so I thought.....

Apparently I missed something that should NOT have gone into the dryer in its CURRENT form......

Remember the yarn I finally found? The one that looked all pastel and pretty in a nice skein like this?

Yeah well somehow it ended up thrown in the dryer.... luckily it was acrylic.....

Need I say more????? It took the better part of 3, almost 4 hours to sort out.

I give up..... after three idiot stunts in a row..... I confess.... call me an idiot. I deserve it. Any idiot who puts a 6oz skein of yarn in the dryer......

OK go ahead... laugh. It's funny now that it's all over.

Marla's got an IDEA! You know its dangerous when I start thinking. A new pattern is about to be born. Whether that pattern will be shared here for free, sold on Etsy, or not shared at all with the finished project to be sold on Etsy and donated.... remains to be seen. I haven't decided that yet.

I'll give you a hint... it's a BABY item not usually crocheted but it will be hereafter. I've only seen one pattern for something like this out there and it was CRAPPY... Mine sure won't be.

Here's my latest Entry on Etsy:

One of my favorite bibs done in a pretty pastel yarn I rescued from a discarded child's vest. Listed under Crochet in general. What do ya think? Pretty for any baby girl. I've been on a bib kick lately- thats about all I've had time to make. Work has been horrendous with the amount of people coming in- its been simply grueling. No time to stop even for a second to go to the bathroom or get a drink until your break which have been very late lately due to being so busy trying to get all the workers breaks in. If only crochet were work....

Just a note to those looking at/for my items on Etsy other than thru my meowcreations shop, my items will generally be listed under the general category crochet. Unless of course, they are another craft. The more specific children's, adult, etc. categories are so crowded you can't find anything.

Noone is posting much- what is everyone making?? Besides dinner that is... I got a great recipe for Baked Spaghetti from Pammy Sue. Go check it out- Scotty's Place.

Happy 4th of July!

Happy Independence day everyone! We are wet at the moment from a storm this morning but will be going to a friend's later regardless rain or shine. All this water AGAIN- Yuck! Hope you all are drier than we are. I'm crocheting a hat at the moment to celebrate. Now... what to go with it.... Sweater? Booties? Mitts? Afghan.... NAH not enough of that yarn. Time will tell.

Also on Verdict watch - waiting for Casey Anthony Jury... may be a while but I don't think so. I think it'll be about 1 day, 2 days tops. Guilty as charged. That's my prediction. Death penalty? I think it should apply (and I'm not normally a fan of that, only in extreme cases but come on, a 2 year old???) but its questionable with this jury. Logically, noone else could have done this and I think they know it. Stay tuned to CNN to see.

Well, How ya like my new template? Ever since the kitten and yarn picture disappeared on me (and no luck finding it again) I've been on the lookout for something different. I only WISH my house looked like this!! Neat huh? I've made a few more dryer balls this week and a little crocheting on a blanket that will probably never get fully done but I've had a good excuse for not getting much done- EVERYTHING else has gone on around here!! Money is almost non existent at the moment, Scott's truck is in the shop, you name it it's gone on around here.

The Dryer Balls project

Wow! The dryer balls I made worked beautifully! I honestly thought it was all a big bunch of hooey and just another craft fad, these things couldn't work as well as fabric softener. THEY WORKED BETTER!!! I used 4 in my large capacity dryer, and they did the trick like a charm- my laundry was soooo soft. And the Recycled wool I had felted Great! Great opportunity for you "Greenies" who want to save energy, cut out the commercial fabric softener and recycle all at the same time. Here's 2 of the ones I made:

Try it- hope they work as well for you! I may post a few of these in my Etsy shop, much cheaper than the ones out there of course- some of those prices are ridiculous. Trouble is there's not much out there in the way of wool sweaters at Goodwill Etc. lately- they have mostly summer stuff. I tried some of the yarn from my stash- some worked great and some didn't. Cleckheaton does NOT felt and came apart in the washer even inside panty hose. The Rainbow wool didn't do much either and I've had to do the Bernat Felting wool 2-3 times now with no success. On the other hand, the Recycled Wool works great from my sweaters, and I Love This Wool from Hobby Lobby works great. Just some tips if you're planning on trying this. Good Luck! If you don't want to try this I'll probably be posting a few in my etsy shop when I get some more done.

Dryer Balls Update

An update on the dryer balls experiment..... I had two yarns wound for dryer balls- one was a 100% wool yarn that came from a grey sweater I recycled the wool from that said DO NOT WASH or something to that effect. These came out very nicely after a couple or three trips through the washer and dryer. They're drying for the last time now. Pictures later.

The other brand, Cleckheaton 100% wool, WILL NOT FELT!!! It came apart and came out a tangled mess, did not felt and had to be tossed. It said it couldn't be washed so it should have come out nicely. A shame since it was a pretty variegated teal too. Would have been pretty. It wasn't superwash wool either.

Soooo..... pictures later when they get done. I'll let you know how they do in the laundry.

Dryer Balls and Goodwill Trip .... almost empty handed

Hi Everyone,

for my latest project I've been making wool dryer balls. WHAT???? Yes, dryer balls. I'll try them out and if I like them I'll sell some on Etsy. They are supposed to get your clothes dryer and softer just like fabric softener without the chemicals. We'll see.

Took a trip to Goodwill today.... found several t-shirts for ME but nothing in the way of sweaters to recycle.... Everything was Acrylic which I have tons of or cotton blends. YUCK- don't like cotton either. I was looking for wool to recycle but found only one- a vest. Everything else was a blend which won't felt. Normally I hate felting but this serves the purpose for this project.

If you google or search for HOW TO MAKE WOOL DRYER BALLS you'll find tons of links and tutorials. So we'll find out if this works or not. Wish me luck!!

Gotta go tonight is shopping night with my Mom's best friend as we do every Wed. night. Later!!

Been busy working on some recycled crayons and recycled yarn to go into my etsy shop. A few were made for gifts too. Things are slow on the crochet front... no completed projects lately due to most of my time off has been spent taking care of crap that's come up and having to run for someone else. Time for some time off to myself, if I can get it.

Gas is eating everyone up so I'm finding more to do indoors. Now, if only people were buying things like they are at my store.... Bunch of Quilters for the AQS quilt show here this week. I like the quilts.... not the people.

Saturday (or part of it) was mine

No, noone brought me any Easter basket or treats this morning. Shoot. Gonna have to pick a few bones of that Bunny's. Yes, I am a Christian and perfectly aware of why and how we should celebrate Easter and I went to church this morning (groggily after the storm last night) but I like to have a little fun too.

I did have part of the day to myself yesterday- after taking my hubby's truck to be worked on and haggling with him, I did manage to make several sets of crayons. Some were to give away at the IHOP I eat breakfast at but the Teddy Bear set and the dinosaurs will be going to my Etsy shop once I get them posted.

I also have TONS of sweaters I need to recycle the yarn from too but will have to wait til hubby is safely back at work. I lost one or two sweaters that the yarn looked good but didn't come apart well or frayed so much coming apart they were about useless.

Me, I'm about to take a short nap before work. Yes, I do have to work today but much later than normal and I'm grateful for that. Hope Everyone had a great Easter. Even if the Bunny came to see you, remember to reflect on the true meaning of Easter- in which Jesus died for us then rose again on the 3rd day and promised to come get us again at the appointed time.

Crayons and Crochet.... or lack of

What a week- My days off so far this week have been filled with taking care of crap that's arisen that a certain credit union has created, running to help clear out some stuff at my dad's (yes, still cleaning out after my mother's death and will be for some time) and trying to keep my own house taken care of and in shape to look at if someone wants to see. Luckily noone's wanted to see it this week- I couldn't have fit another thing in.

Which is my main gripe.... I haven't had time to crochet or make a single CRAYON for sale or for favor this week. I have plenty stacked for several batches where a local restaurant is saving their used crayons for me that would otherwise go in the trash, and someone else gave me a huge bag of crayolas that had been in a fire.... you couldn't even tell it except for some soot on the outside of the ziploc they were in! Amazing!!

So.... my Saturday off is ALL MINE.... I will be making crayons by day and crocheting in front of the TV at night. I think maybe I got 2 small rows of knitting in before I fell asleep in front of the TV the other night. Well whoever has something for me to do
Saturday can just wait!! LOL

I did find a cute pattern at cute crochet blog patterns for a clothespin bag and dress dishcloth. Don't like the pattern on the clothespin bag though... may have to come up with my own if I can get some time alone... to myself... for crocheting!!

Right now, slavery (I mean work) calls..... Later Everyone!

Hi Everyone-

Happy Saturday! My day off although not totally enjoyable due to some things that came up and some unexpected expenses, I may have some time later to mess with my new hobby- recycling crayons! Then maybe some knitting later tonight. How's everyone- it's great to see what you all have accomplished since I last logged in and there's always new ideas and projects. My latest accomplishments are posted on Etsy: Sea Creature Crayons, pretzel crayons, and car truck and plane crayons along with a couple of others. Hi Everyone and More Etsy

Hi Everyone,

I'm still here just not getting much puter time lately. Got the majority of Mom's stuff cleaned out, working on my own house as it's for sale. We're getting a few showings but not tons and no offers yet. I've also been working on some projects for Etsy- Posted lots of vintage jewelry pieces and making some recycled crayons that I'm about to post. One thing I want to try is wool dryer balls- they are supposed to work great so we'll see.

Sorry so long between posts I've been wild lately trying to keep things done and keep up with it all plus hubby too. got a very early showing of the house tomorrow so I need to be up there working instead of at my dad's but with gas almost $4 a gal (avg. $3.75 here most places) it's hard to run back and forth. Hence a big part of the reason for moving- we're about 20 mi from town, 25 from the mall area, 15 from southside of town, 10 from my dad..... you get the idea. Only a cracker barrel and a few fast food places in the little town we live in and they try to roll up the streets at about 7pm. And the one little grocery store..... we won't even talk about the prices!! It'd break me to buy a loaf of bread and lunchmeat there! In short.... I WANNA MOVE ASAP. Can you tell?? LOL

Now that my rant is over gonna go see what I can get done. Thanks for following and be in touch as soon as I can. Love you guys!

I'm still here

I'm still here- no, I haven't dropped off the face of the earth. Since I went back to work after my mom's death and trying to clean out her things with my dad and trying to get my house in shape to sell (hopefully) my time has been limited at the puter.

I have been posting a few things on Etsy- some stash items and also some vintage jewelry and other items.

Thank you to everyone for your kind comments during and after my mother's illness and death- I really appreciate them. It was nice to open the computer to all your kind words.

Just Checking In

Hi Everyone,

Just checking in real quick.... no I haven't dropped off the face of the earth, just very busy after my mom's illness and death trying to help my dad and sort through her stuff before I have to go back to work the first of the month. My hubby said "Must be nice not having to go to work." MEN! He wasn't being ugly, you haveto know his background- he was brought up in a family that never made him a part of anything or treated him like family, so he really doesn't understand what all there is to do and be done. Nor that My dad and I are all each other has left blood family wise except my 91 year old greandmother who is barely there mentally and isn't any help. Nor does he understand what we are really going through. As I said he was mentally and emotionally abused somewhat but that is another story for another day. I do have to remember he is trying.... comments like the above are made innocently, not to be mean.

I did want to let some people know that I am still here, just havent had much puter time or time to check in for trying to go through the 3 closets worth of clothes, 150 or so pairs of shoes, probably 100 odd purses, and not to mention family records, pictures and heirlooms of my mom's. It'll take us 6 months literally. Right now I've trashed most of the stuff that we don't know what or who it is or isn't even fit to send to Goodwill, separated the rest into 3 sets, Goodwill, consignment run of the mill stuff, and consignment (a different store) fancy stuff or brand new.

OK I've got to run, thanks to everyone for checking on me, your comments and to Pam for my Stylish Blogger Award. I'll be back soon as I can.

Mom's Obituary and other things

Here is the link some of you were asking for to my mom's Obituary.

You are welcome to post this, share it or do any donations in her name. Some from Newborns in Need may remember her as well.

You would not believe the cleaning out we have to do of her things- an almost 4,000 sq ft house full. Plus the legal, financial etc. that goes with this and part of it is my responsibility now as my dad and I are the only blood kin either of us has left with the exception of my 91 year old grandmother who lives with him and isn't in mental or physical shape to help or take care of her affairs. I have taken a leave from work for a while to get things done, hopefully some of my stuff being some of it but this will have to come first.

Thank you so much to those of you wanting to do something in Mom's name- that would be great if you want to do so. We had a large turnout tonight at the visitation- I didn't know we were that popular! Plus some friends and family who came great distances, some cousins from central MO, one from past Lexington KY about 4hrs from here just so he could say hello, a friend of mine drove an hour and a half from two (or more) counties away.... it was touching so many people came to pay their respects.

Thanks so much to everyone for everything- people are literally fighting over who can do what to help around here. We still have the funeral to go through tomorrow, I will have my hands full trying to help my dad, both of us get my grandmother in there, and me trying to get Scott in there in time to be a pallbearer. Please pray for all of us.

My grandmother does understand what's going on but doesn't realize details or the severity of the situation and what it entails. So trying to deal with her is much of a chore right now. My poor hubby is almost by himself at home right now.... probably in peace and quiet. I'm staying with my dad for the time being to get some things done.

My Mom

Dear Friends,

I needed to let you all know that my mom passed away at approx. 4pm CST Saturday afternoon. After an uphill battle, finally her heart and blood pressure crashed, only to be brought back, then crash again, then brought back one more time. They finally told us that there was no improvement overall lately and that they could keep restarting her heart but it was damaging the rest of her body and likely they couldn't keep her alive long enough to help her even if they did again. The whole family was there, plus some close friends, Daddy and I talked it over and told them to do everything they could but if they couldn't keep her going or if it dropped or crashed again to let her go. She had had more than she could stand, and about 15-20 min later the Lord took her home.

Funeral arrangements will be Visitation Wed. with funeral Thursday at Milner-Orr Funeral Home of Paducah KY. Why so long? Monday is Valentine's day; Tuesday was her birthday. Mom died at 62 years old, she would have been 63 Tuesday.

We greatly appreciate everyone's prayers and concern, and ask that you pray for our family as well as for my mother's safe passage into heaven. Also for my dad as he adjusts to her sudden loss, and me as I try to help him through it. Thank you everyone for the prayers and everything that has been offered and done. Love to you all.

Update on my Mom

Dear Friends,

I needed to update everyone on Mom's condition. Some of you know she was admitted to the hospital Sunday night with nausea vomiting and dehydration we attributed to her severe acid reflux disease. All was going well until Monday night, Daddy left at 9:30 and everything was OK, came home and I got off work at 10 and was staying with him until the roads cleared in my area. At 12:30 am (Tues) The hospital called and says they are sending her to CCU with Breathing difficulty. My Dad tells them this is a temporary thing that sometimes is a result of her acid Reflux. They insist this is more serious so we get down there, she is on oxygen, both of her Dr's were there and stayed til about 2 and she wasn't great but she was stable. Neither of them thought anything else was bad so they both left.

At 2:40 we were sitting with her and she was talking with us when her blood pressure suddenly went very low and heart rate began dropping off. My dad ran to the desk across the hall and told them to get in there NOW, about the time he walked up their alarm went off. Her blood pressure got down to almost nothing, all 15 of the nurses on that floor were in there for the next 4 hours working to stabilize her. By 6 am Tues, they were telling us that since neither of her bowels was working and possibly both were "dead" tissue, her blood acidity was very low and her body chemistry was way off there was no hope she'd make it through the day. They stopped just short of telling us to make funeral plans.

As she slowly improved bit by bit they were able to run a few tests and ruled out a heart attack, stroke and a blood clot. The consensus is that likely her body chemistry got so out of whack that it literally shut her body down.

As of Thursday evening at 4pm she is still critical but mostly stable. Her vitals are stable with the exception of a blood pressure episode this afternoon the Dr says is common for her condition. We are nowhere near out of the woods yet but very blessed with God's help that she is here now, 48hrs ago we were told there is no hope that she can sustain life for several reasons. If they are able to keep her stabilized enough the next several days they may try to do exploratory surgery to see if the bowels are indeed the problem and what they can do to correct it. They are not hearing any sounds and have been considered at least partially dead tissue, however they have moved several times today so hopefully something is working.

Please keep Mom and my family in your prayers, She is still critical and very sick despite her improvements since Tues morning and is not out of the woods by a long shot. Pray they will be able to keep her stable and improving long enough they can find the problem and correct it. She is responding when she can hear us and has opened her eyes a few times, though not every time we ask her. However, she is not fully awake or conscious.

I believe in Miracles, we have already had one miracle that she is still with us, we need another one to pull her through this even after she is stable, it will be a long road.
Some of you already know some of this, but some of you are finding out for the first time. Thanks everyone for your love and prayers and pray Mom can be stablilized enough to help the Dr's figure out and correct the problem. Thanks everyone so much for caring. Love you all.

Surprise!!

Surprise! Those flurries we were supposed to get today? Turned into 6" or so of SNOW!!!

My mom is in the hospital right now either food poisoning or her acid reflux and dehydration, so I stopped by daddy's after work last night to let the dog out and kind of check the house. When I left there at 1am last night there was drizzling rain and 38 degrees. We were supposed to get a few flurries out of it today. This is what we got.

I slid on packed snow coming out of our subdivision and turning on to the highway. I called Scott and told him even if his work didnt shut down tonight to stay there. Noone figured on this... we weren't supposed to get any accumulation and as warm as it's been I'm highly surprised it stuck, guess it was just too fast. I'm going into work since I'm already out but the minute I can go I'm outta there, gonna stay at my parents' tonight, much closer than driving back thru Marshall Co where they haven't touched the roads. I may be posting or surfing a lot tonight since I have internet access there and Mom isn't there to tie up the puter.

I've had a couple of Etsy sales this week after almost nothing for 2 months. Finally some yarn sold, and a pattern book sold. Etsy has been slow on sales last couple of months. I'm putting some recycled yarn up as I can get it photographed and posted.

OK gotta run if I'm going to work- may not get there on time with the weather but I'm sure they'll be glad to see me whatever time I get there, I bet everyone else has called in. Later all!!

More snow heading our way

We're supposed to get some more snow tonight thru tomorrow morning, just 1-2" for our area or maybe even just a dusting, we'll see. Then some more supposedly Sun-Tues with super cold temps again by Tuesday. Like High of 23 or so Tuesday according to the weather.

The Storm Missed Us

Hi Everyone,

Some of you have asked if we got buried in snow here in Western KY, the answer is no, not this time. 99% of the storm missed us and went north of us- we only got a few flurries. We got plenty of cold temps though- highs in the 20's next couple of days or so. Maybe 30's tomorrow if we're lucky, will feel like a heat wave.

I feel for those of you who lost power and got buried in snow- I'd like a little myself but no blizzards or ice storms please. Although it might be nice if we got snowed in for a few days and the power stayed on.... some relaxation time I badly need.

I opened my email this morn to another Etsy sale! Great- time to get some of this stuff outta the house. Etsy has been slow lately and I've been reluctant to try to post anything on Ebay for lack of time lately. I'm considering cutting my work hours, the stress of it all has been so hard on me but then again that will mean less money. Hmm what to do..... They've been cutting everyone else just about and increasing my hours which means the same 2-3 of us are doing most of the work at night and my job is very physical, picking up everything that comes thru that register. Over and Over and Over. My arms are sore to say the least.

Gonna drop a bag at Goodwill, a box at PO then probably someone coming to get the old washer and dryer I took out. Have a great day all!

Some yarn winding tips.... aka trial and error humor

Some things I learned about yarn and recycling yarn both from my own projects and sweaters and such.

Fuzzy, boucle, mohair or even slightly felted (sweaters someone has tossed in the dryer thus disregarding the instructions) yarns are next to impossible to unravel.

Lace weight sweaters will wear you out in a very short time unless you have a winder.

Never try to unravel a sweater with stripes unless you are going for small bits of color or a magic ball. The fabric may be all one piece but the yarn isn't when you unravel it.

Knitting with lace weight yarn (or crocheting for that matter) is a pain in the ..... not to mention the hands.

When trying to unravel or wind yarn, confine the cat (or in my case cats) to one room. A DIFFERENT room.

Lock the Husband out of the house.

When he gripes about the yarn laying around, remind him of his collection of hats, t-shirts, watches, potato chip and snack bags, etc. laying around.

Now get yourself a yarn winder, a good CD or TV show, some nice yarn to be wound, and wind away!

Yarn Yarn and Yarn

I've got too much yarn. And this time, that isn't a good thing. My living room, back room, truck you name it are just about full. Some of it is reclaimed yarn to sell, some of it is mine and some I have reserved for charity that needs to go out. I just need a good size box.

I'm going to work today on getting some of it skeined, photographed and posted on Etsy if I can get all that done between work. I bought a travel size niddy noddy for winding skeins but not sure if thats going to do the job on some of my bigger skeins or not.

Meanwhile I'm trying to clear out my etsy shop too so if you see anything under MeowCreations you'd like please do let me know. I'm offering 10% off my entire shop until Valentine's day. Need to make room for some of this yarn! And to walk thru my house.

Finished Cocoon Pictures- As Promised!

Here's the pictures I've been promising of the two finished cocoons going to Relief Share. It almost took me longer to get pictures posted than the cocoons made since my time on the internet is limited due to work. I made both of these out of Hobby Lobby's I Love This Yarn worsted weight although any SOFT acrylic yarn from baby to chunky can be used as long as it comes out the right sizes and doesn't have holes in the pattern. The pattern I used is my own and listed several places including here. Although you're welcome to use this pattern for charity or personal use, please don't use it to make something to sell.

Here's the two small newborn 16" around by 16" long cocoons (8" wide by 16" long) one in light green and one in a pastel variegated color.

Here's another I had started but partially frogged to redo to size.

If you'd like to make one or more of these Relief Share needs 350 of them for their hospital and some for their crisis center.

Snow!

We woke up this morning (and I came home last night) to about 3" of snow. It was all very pretty but most had melted off by this morning at 9am when I got up. RATS. I keep hoping for about a foot where everything will shut down for about a week. No such luck. Oh well.

Another cocoon in progress

Well, two finished (One picture taken, one to go and both to be posted) and another one I frogged and redid to match the size needed in progress, yet another one just started in a pretty purple simply soft yarn. I'd love to make this a picture blog every day but my limit of time doesn't always permit like I would like.

I've gotten stuck on these cocoons lately. A newborn size requested by the hospital is 16" around by 16" long, or 8" around by 16 long. The softest of acrylic yarn is required whether worsted weight, sport or baby. Relief Share's blog has a good bit of detail as well as knitting, crochet, and sewing patterns to make these as well as sizes needed. These are used for newborns rather than receiving blankets in the hospital and at home.

Nothing going on in blogland or otherwise on the net today so off to spend my precious hour or two before work crocheting and playing with yarn! I updated some of my ETSY shop which now has a 10% off sale thru Valentine's day. Enjoy!!

WHEW!! After a wild week with Scott being home with his neck hurting, I finally am getting him back to work tonight. I did take about an hour or less and listed some yarn and recycled yarn on Etsy. I much need to move some of my items on there.

Got one sweater fully unraveled, orange 100% wool and got six hanks out of it. They will be for sale after washing. Working on a pretty off white sparkle acrylic/cotton blend now.

Maybe now I can also have time to work on my charity things like baby stuff and cocoons for Relief Share. Have some other things needing mailing off too if I can just get those boxes in my truck to go to mailbox.

OK unfortunately I have to get ready to go back to work but will leave you with some pics I took, mostly of things for sale on Etsy.

Cocoon Charity Request

I have a request for the cocoons or any items you make from my blog or website, especially baby:

Please send these items first and foremost to Relief Share as they need lots of baby and charity items and the hospital there and crisis center use lots of cocoons. Lots of warm items are needed, primarily baby and children's items but adult items can be used as well. If you crochet or knit, acrylics work well for baby items.

Goodwill, Sweaters and New Washer and Dryer

Hi all,

I've been playing with my new washer and dryer I got hooked up today! (*Bragging*) They are super quiet, just my height, front loading and run like a dream.

Didn't get any more yarns listed on Etsy today but definitely will soon. I've been trying to pick up a few things in the house and took one sack to Goodwill where I also found 11 (Yes, count them- 11!!) sweaters with beautiful yarns for recycling. I did miss a pretty thick dark purple one that a lady grabbed before I got to the rack though. Lots of lambswool, silk blends, cotton blends, 100% cotton and a few acrylic. Some people are yarn snobs and won't bother with the acrylic but these were pretty enough that it was worth the $2-2.50 to get quite a bit of yarn out of that sweater. If noone else will use the acrylic, I will. I am by no means a yarn snob, in fact I am not crazy about wool unless it is very soft and washable and hate using cotton yarn. Acrylic is my favorite texture, and usually holds up best and is the best to work with. I am not one of these people picky about working with synthetics like acrylic- I love it. These sweaters really are nice though- should keep me busy for a long time.

And my new washer and dryer have those extra delicate and hand washables and air dry cycles on them!! I can wash things now that would otherwise have to be done by hand. My old ones still work- they are going to a lady whose house burnt on New Years Day along with quite a few things I cleaned out she can have.
